EMT: Emergency Medical Technician

EMTs are usually the first health care professionals to reach patients with injuries, serious illnesses, and traumas. EMT training enables people to handle a variety of situations ranging from heart attacks to car accidents.

EMT is approximately 204-hour classroom course with additional 24 hours clinical rotation with EMS. Two EMT courses are offered by JCC in the Spring & Fall semesters. Other courses may be scheduled during the year to meet community need.

EMT Day Course

Classes will be held on JCC main campus in the Public Safety Service Building (PSSB J1630) starting Wednesday, August 2, 2017.  Classes will meet weekly on Wednesdays, 8:30am - 5:30pm; Occasional Saturday and Sunday classes according to schedule, 8:30am - 5:30pm.  AHA Healthcare Provider and NIMS certifications included.  Course ends December 2017.

Cost: Payment in the form of a money order, credit card or personal check.

$180 Registration fee (unless fee waived through affiliation with a department)
$7.75 for AHA CPR equipment and card (collected upon completion of certification during course)
$19 Clinical Liability Coverage (not required if covered by sponsor provider).  Insurance documentation or payment is required before start of clinical time.
$50 (approximately) for criminal background check and drug screening prior to start of clinical time through college approved vendor
$15 Approved college EMS uniform shirt to be work during clinical rotations
$80 Platinum planner/EMS testing subscription
Requirements:

High School Diploma / GED or successful completion of an entrance exam assessing reading comprehension and English language skills at 11th grade level.
Students must be 17 years of age prior to the end of class.

Emergency Medical Technician Hybrid Refresher

Course starts October 2017 and ends December 2017.  On campus classes and orientation will be held at Johnston Community College; Public Safety Building (PSSB J1630).  Assignments will be due weekly online.  NCOEMS required TSOP will be performed on campus the final weekend of the course.

1. Complete the JCC Registration Form.
2. Pick up EMT Program course information and materials.
3. Textbook information:  AAOS Advanced Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured, 11th edition (ISBN: 9781284080179) *This textbook or another current EMT textbook is RECOMMENDED, but is not required*
4. Payment in the form of a money order, credit card or personal check - $180.00 Registration fee

Requirements:
EMS Credential Status Requirement

a. Currently holds a valid North Carolina, NREMT or other State EMS Credential.
                                      OR
b. Held a Basic Level North Carolina EMS Credential (EMR or EMT) that has expired within the last two (2) years.

High School Diploma/GED OR successful completion of exam assessing basic reading comprehension skills.           TABE Test – Contact the Academic Skill Center for additional information
 
Rescue and EMS may qualify for tuition waiver ($180.00 fee):
To receive tuition waiver:
Fire & EMS personnel must be listed on an official Johnston County agency roster. Provide a copy of the current roster at registration. Roster must include position and the current year.

Out-Of-County Fire and EMS personnel must provide at registration a letter on official department letter head that includes documentation of active membership, position and that this course is necessary for your job. One letter can list multiple members from an agency.

Without proper documentation at registration will result in tuition payment before student will be allowed to register for class. This may affect guaranteeing you a slot in class.
