EMT: Emergency Medical Technician

Fall 2019 Day EMT Course

Classes will be held on JCC main campus in the Public Safety Service Building (PSSB J1630) starting Wednesday, August 14th, 2019. Classes will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 8:30am – 5:30pm; Some weekend classes are associated as well; AHA Healthcare Provider and NIMS certifications included. Course ends December 2019.

Orientation Dates: Wednesday, July 31st at 10:00am OR Thursday, August 1st, at 6pm
Registration Information: Completed during orientation. Late registration will be available on the first scheduled class date.
Orientation Location: Public Safety Service Building
Course starts: Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 (8:30am-5:30pm)
Course ends: December 2019
Cost: Payment in the form of cash, a money order, credit card or personal check may be made to the business office at JCC for the following items:

  • $180 Registration fee (unless fee waived through affiliation with a department)
  • $7.75 for AHA CPR equipment and card (collected upon completion of certification during course)
  • $19 Clinical Liability Coverage

Other Costs:

  • $50 (approximately) for criminal background check and drug screening prior to start of clinical time through college approved vendor
  • $15 Approved college EMS uniform shirt to be work during clinical rotations
  • $80 Platinum planner/EMS testing subscription

Requirements

High School Diploma / GED or successful completion of an entrance exam assessing reading comprehension and English language skills at 11th grade level. Students must be 17 years of age prior to the end of class.

Rescue and EMS may qualify for tuition waiver ($180.00 fee).

To receive tuition waiver: Fire & EMS personnel must be listed on an official Johnston County agency roster. Provide a copy of the current roster at registration. Roster must include position and the current year.

Out-Of-County Fire and EMS personnel must provide at registration a letter on official department letter head that includes documentation of active membership, position and that this course is necessary for your job. One letter can list multiple members from an agency.

Without proper documentation at registration will result in tuition payment before student will be allowed to register for class. This may affect guaranteeing you a slot in class.

Classes will meet weekly on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-10pm (*note this is a change to previous semesters due to changing NC OEMS hour requirements) ; Some weekend classes are associated as well; AHA Healthcare Provider and NIMS certifications included. Course ends December 2019.

Fall 2019 Hybrid EMT Refresher Course

Classes will be held online starting Wednesday, September 30, 2019. Classes will meet on the final weekend of the course, December 14th and 15th, from 8:30am – 5:30pm in the PSSB, room J1630 on the JCC Main Campus; Course ends December 15, 2019.

Orientation Dates: Registration sessions can be scheduled individually by emailing EMT Program Coordinator Brittany Baker at bmjackson@johnstoncc.edu. Registration can be completed via email.
Registration Information: Late registration will be available until Friday, October 5th, 2019 upon the registrar’s office closing at 5pm.

Course starts: Monday, September 30th, 2019
Course ends: December 15th, 2019
Cost: Payment in the form of cash, a money order, credit card or personal check may be made to the business office at JCC for the following items:

  • $180 Registration fee (unless fee waived through affiliation with a department)

  • EMS Credential Status Requirement
  • a. Currently holds a valid North Carolina, NREMT or other State EMS Credential.  

                                       OR

  • b. Held a Basic Level North Carolina EMS Credential (EMR or EMT) that has expired within the last two (2) years.
  • High School Diploma/GED OR successful completion of exam assessing basic reading comprehension skills  – Contact the Academic Skill Center for additional information
