EMD: Emergency Medical Dispatch

An Emergency medical dispatcher is a professional telecommunicator, tasked with the gathering of information related to medical emergencies, the provision of assistance and instructions by voice, prior to the arrival of Emergency Medical Services, and the dispatching and support of EMS resources responding to an emergency call. 40 hour EMD certification courses are offered at Johnston Community College.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED or successful completion of an entrance exam assessing Reading comprehension and English language skills at 10 grade level.
  • Students must be 17 years of age prior to the end of class.
  • AHA CPR certification
