Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Initial Provider

This 2-day course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach pediatric emergency respiratory management or cardiac arrest. The PALS course is for healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies.  Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardio-pulmonary arrest utilizing a systematic approach to pediatric assessment is the focus of this course.

Target Audience: The primary target audience for this course is pediatricians, emergency physicians, family physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies.

Prerequisite:  Current BLS certification
Textbook: 2010 American Heart Association PALS Provider Manual
Dates:TBA

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor Course

This one-day course is designed for you, if you are a currently certified PALS provider, to become a certified American Heart Association PALS course instructor. The purpose of a PALS Instructor Course is to develop proficiency in teaching, organizing, coordinating and conducting a PALS Provider Course.

Target Audience: Personnel staffing emergency, intensive care or critical care departments; emergency medical providers such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics, fire fighters, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

Prerequisite:Instructor candidate MUST contact Mark Holloman, AHA Coordinator, to receive a detailed list of prerequisites and supplies needed for the course at kmholloman@johnstoncc.edu. Preregistration is required!
