At this time, Johnston Community College does not offer any certificates, diplomas, or degrees entirely online. Coursework in many of our programs can be taken online; however, you will need to physically attend classes on one of our campuses to complete a program.
If you want to obtain a certificate, diploma, or degree at JCC, you will need to follow the general admissions process. You can choose to take distance education courses if they are offered instead of on-campus courses. Once you have been admitted to the college, you will be assigned an advisor who will assist you in selecting courses and help you as you progress in your chosen curriculum.
This is the process for those who want to take one or more courses at Johnston Community College and DO NOT plan to pursue a certificate, diploma or degree at Johnston Community College.
Special Student Status may apply to you if:
Step 1- Complete an Application
Complete a JCC application and select Special Student-Distance Education Courses Only as your program of study. To ensure admission for spring semester, you must submit an application by December 1st. If you apply after this date, you are not guaranteed admission for spring semester.
Step 2- Provide proof of eligibility to take course(s)
If the course has a prerequisite, you will need to submit proof that you have met the prerequisite for the course. Proof can be through a transcript or a letter of permission from the university or college that you are planning to transfer the credit. For example, PSY 150 is a prerequisite for PSY 241. You would either need to submit a transcript from the college that credit for PSY 150 was earned in order to enroll in PSY 241 at JCC or get a permission letter from your home college stating you may take the course at JCC and transfer it back to that institution. Please be prepared to provide this information to your advisor prior to registration.
Step 3- Get Advised
You must e-mail your advisor with a list of courses you wish to take online. Your advisor will verify that you have met any prerequisite requirements.

Step 4- Register
Registration (online and telephone) is November 12-26, 2008. For telephone registration, the TRACS line phone number is 919-209-2526 or 1-866-919-2526. For online registration, visit Webadvisor.
