Herman Kight is serving as interim vice president.
When Michael Cross reflects on his time as vice president of administrative services at JCC, the hardworking employees come to mind.
"What JCC does for this community and this state is really remarkable. The people who work here just do a fantastic job," Cross said.
Cross officially retired Feb. 29 with close to six years of service at the College. During his tenure, Cross managed a variety of functions at JCC – finances, facilities, human resources, safety and security, and community outreach opportunities. While the responsibilities were vast, Cross said the job gave him the chance to lead a diverse division.
"I really appreciate Dr. Johnson, the board of trustees, and everyone else here at JCC giving me this opportunity because it's really been a capstone for my career," Cross said. "I just can't say enough good things about the employees, especially those who reported directly to me. They truly made this job special."
A native of Whittier, Calif., Cross came to JCC from N.C. State University, where he was the assistant dean for finance and business for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Prior to N.C. State, Cross was the director of financial services at California State University, Los Angeles. A Certified Internal Auditor, Cross has also held several internal audit positions with public, non-profit, and county governments organizations during his career in finance.
Herman Kight, former vice president of administrative services at JCC, is serving as interim vice president while the College find's Cross's replacement. Kight retired from JCC in April 2010 after 36 years of service in the state's community college system.
"We are sad to see Mike retire, but we are so pleased to have Herman back with us as we continue to work to fill the vacancy," said Dr. David Johnson, JCC president. "Herman has a tremendous knowledge of finances and operations at JCC and that will help keep the College running smoothly in the interim."
