Minority Male Mentoring Program
Mission Statement
The mission of the Minority Male Mentoring Program
is to enhance the life experience of minority male students at Johnston Community College. The program will serve as a support system and a resource for students with the end goal of maximizing their level of achievement at Johnston Community College and beyond.
Program Objectives
- Provide mentees participation in a weekly seminar to be taught by Johnston Community College faculty/staff which will include the following topics: learning styles, goal setting, time management, career planning, diversity, budgeting, note and test taking, reading for understanding and study skills.
- Provide career and educational mentoring to mentees through opportunities to shadow successful minority male college students.
- Provide specialized supportive counseling and activities to mentees to increase their chances for completing higher education and obtaining a degree.
- Provide financial aid, grant and scholarship information to mentees who participate in the Minority Male Mentoring Program.
- Provide mentees with exposure to substance abuse prevention education.
