Murder in the Garden with Molly Weston

October 16 - 7 - 9 pm
Arboretum Mobile Unit
$10 per person

When it's too hot/cold/wet/dry/dark to work outside, you can still enjoy gardening! Join Triangle mystery maven Molly Weston as she talks about mysteries set in gardens. Molly will discuss some of her favorite authors who feature gardeners or farmers in their series.  She will include characters such as orchid grower Nero Wolfe and lawyer-turned-herbalist China Bayles and authors such as North Carolina's own Vicki Lane and Joyce and Jim Lavene. Molly will have favors for all and door prizes for a few lucky readers. After the lecture, participants will have an opportunity to "pot-up" a few windowsill herbs for indoor gardens.

Vegetable Victories - The How-to's of Vegetable Gardening with Shawn Banks

February 19 - 7 pm

As the cost of groceries continues to rise, many of us will be considering growing our own vegetables. The delight of a home-grown tomato, bowls of freshly picked lettuce, and bounties of squash, corn, and beans, all make our early spring planning and preparation vital for success. Join us as we learn the basics of soil and garden preparation, the in's and out's of soil testing, how to read a seed catalog, and the proper plant selection and placement for optimum production. Participants will receive some vegetable seeds to begin their garden!
