Join the Howell Woods Advisory Board and staff for an annual open house event at Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center. Spend part of the day and into the night enjoying educational programs and recreational activities for adults and children. There is no charge for any activities during the festival. Activities start at noon with several specific activities occurring during the night (see schedule). Food vendors will be on site to satisfy the needs of the stomach.
Kid’s specific activities include; Discovery Boxes, and a fishing derby (all equipment provided).
Family activities include; Mule team wagon rides, Astronomy activities (day and night), nature walks, bon fire with smores, and live bands.
Educational activities include; nature photography, longleaf pine history and lore, urban white-tailed deer management, and a fly fishing demonstration. Learn more about the captive live reptiles and amphibians and birds of prey housed at the Learning Center. Our environmentally friendly cabins will be open for touring as well.
A variety of non-profit organizations will have tables set-up to provide information in their area of expertise. Organizations scheduled to attend; NC Forest Service, Local Boy and Girl Scout groups, JCC Arboretum, Tobacco Farm Life Museum, Quality Deer Management Association, Ducks Unlimited, and Quail Unlimited.
