Rates and Fees

Howell Woods is actively managed for the benefit of wildlife, educational opportunities, and low impact outdoor recreation.  All money generated from the collection of fees is used for facility maintenance and improvements.

  • 1Howell Woods Event includes; any event, program or activity sponsored by or where a fee is paid directly to Howell Woods to participate.
  • 2Group Rental-Howell Woods staff will only handle reservations and payment through one designated point of contact for a group. The designated point of contact will handle individual payment and cabin/room/bed assignments and will be responsible for check-in procedures for their individual group members.
  • 3Government and Non-profit include; city, county, state and federal government institutions and non-profit organizations, churches, scouts and other youth groups.
  • Check in time is between 2:00-6:00pm, check out is 11:00am
  • One night minimum and 30 night maximum stay allowed.
  • 4Price includes fishing and bike riding fees
  • 5Holiday= any observed holiday period that JCC is closed. (subject to staff availability)

  • Government and nonprofit include:  city, county, state, and federal government institutions and nonprofit organizations, churches, scouts, and other youth groups.
  • Johnston County public, private, and home schools are not charged for usage.
  • Johnston Community College employees receive a $10 discount off of the gov't/nonprofit rate.
  • Rates are for each separate facilities listed, i.e., the classroom/porch is one facility, the picnic shelter is one facility and the amphitheater is one facility
  • Classroom: Half day= 4 hour period or less, Whole day= 4 hour period or longer, Weekend= Saturday and/or Sunday, Picnic Shelter, Amphitheater: Half day= 8:00am-1:00pm, 1:00pm-6:00pm or 6:00pm-10:00pm. Whole Day= any six hour or more time frame. Weekend= Saturday and/or Sunday.
  • Holiday = any observed holiday period that Johnston Community College is closed (subject to staff availability)
  • Staff program is not available during Johnston Community College observed holidays.

  • No charge for Johnston County public or home school groups or non-profit organizations during normal business hours, 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.
  • 1Groups requesting canoe programs are required to provide a Certified Lifeguard at their own expense.
  • 2Minimum group size for all canoe programs is 6 paddlers (minimum age of 10), minimum age of 5 to ride in center seat (non-paddling seat)

  • No charge for Johnston County public schools, libraries, or nonprofit organizations within Johnston County during normal business hours - 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.
  • No charge for programs conducted at other environmental education centers anywhere in the state.
  • Off site programs are conducted in Johnston, Wayne, Wake, Harnett, Sampson, Nash, and Wilson counties.
  • Time frame is for program length only and not travel time.
  • No charge for an informational presentation about Howell Woods.
