The
indoor Learning Center exhibits include numerous species of native live reptiles
and amphibians. The outdoor displays include a barred owl, a red-shouldered hawk, two red-tailed hawks, and a turkey vulture - all non-releasable.
Located by the front porch of the Learning Center is a very active 17 station
bird feeding demonstration area. The area is landscaped with beneficial
native plants and houses numerous types and styles of birdfeeders. An
elevated observation blind, built as an Eagle Scout project, is located adjacent
to the bird feeders. Visitors can also sit under the porch and have an up-close
view of as many as 15-20 species of birds in a short amount of time. Over
60 species of birds have been seen throughout the seasons at the birdfeeders!
The area around the Learning Center also has several demonstration
areas on native wildflower gardening and landscaping, a raised bed organic
garden, composting units, and bird nest boxes.
