Driving Directions to Howell Woods

From Dunn/South (I-95):

1. Take I-95 North.
2. Take exit number 79 (Benson NC 50 exit).
3. Turn left onto NC 50.
4. Travel approximately 1½ miles and turn left onto Strickland's Crossroads (SR 1143).
5. Continue for approximately 12¾ miles, crossing NC 96 and US 701, and turn left at the "T" intersection onto Devil's Racetrack Road.
6. Proceed approximately two-tenths of a mile, going over a bridge.  Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center is on the right about 300 yards off the road in a stand of pine trees.

From Wilson/North (I-95):

1. Take I-95 South.
2. Take exit number 90 (US 701).
3. Turn right onto US 701 and go over I-95.
4. Continue on US 701 for approximately 6.3 miles and turn left onto Stricklands Crossroads (SR 1143).
5. Continue for approximately 3.4 miles and turn left at the "T" intersection onto Devil's Racetrack Road.
6. Proceed approximately two-tenths of a mile, going over a bridge. Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center is on the right about 300 yards off the road in a stand of pine trees.

From Newton Grove/South (I-40):

1. Take I-40 West to Exit 343 (US 701).
2. Turn left onto US 701 and continue for approximately 2½-3 miles into Newton Grove.
3. Follow the traffic circle to the US 701 outlet and turn right just before you get to Hardee's.
4. Travel north on US 701 for approximately 8 miles and turn right onto Strickland's Crossroads (SR 1143).
5. Continue for approximately 3½ miles and turn left at the "T" intersection onto Devil's Racetrack Road.
6. Proceed approximately two-tenths of a mile, going over a bridge.  Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center is on the right about 300 yards off the road in a stand of pine trees.

From Raleigh/West (I-40): via several back roads

1. Take I-40 East to Exit 319 (NC 210).
2. Turn left onto NC 210.
3. Continue approximately 9½ miles and turn right onto Gailee Road (SR 1341).
4. Continue approximately 3 miles and turn right at the "T" intersection onto US 301.
5. Continue approximately 2 miles and go over I-95 where US 301 becomes US 701.
6. Continue on US 701 for approximately 6.3 miles and turn left onto Stricklands Crossroads (SR 1143).
7. Continue for approximately 3.4 miles and turn left at the "T" intersection onto Devil's Racetrack Road.
8. Proceed approximately two-tenths of a mile, going over a bridge. Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center is on the right about 300 yards off the road in a stand of pine trees.

From Raleigh/West (US 70):

1. Take US 70 East.
2. Exit onto I-95 South and continue to Exit number 90 (US 701).
3. Turn right onto US 701 and go over I-95.

From Goldsboro/East (US 70): via several back roads

1. From US 70, take US 117 & US 13 South to the NC 581 exit (Cherry Hospital exit).
2. Turn left onto NC 581 and travel towards Cherry Hospital.
3. At the traffic light, continue straight onto Stevens Mill Road.
4. At the Johnston County line, Stevens Mill Road becomes Harper House Road.
5. Continue approximately 1 mile from the county line and turn right onto Scout Road (SR 1199).
6. Continue for approximately 3 miles and turn right at the "T" intersection onto Bentonville Road (SR 1197)
7. Continue for approximately 1 mile and turn left at the "T" intersection onto Westbrook Lowgrounds Road (SR 1198).
8. Travel one-tenth of a mile and turn right at the "T" intersection onto Devil's Racetrack Road.
9. Continue approximately 2 miles, going over two bridges.  Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center is on the right (approximately two-tenths of a mile past the second bridge) about 300 yards off the road in a stand of pine trees.
