Who Is My Advisor?
1. Apply for admission.
Complete an application for admission in Student Services or through the Johnston Community College website.
2. Submit official transcripts.
Have all official transcripts, including high school, GED, and college transcripts sent to: Admissions Office, Johnston Community College, PO Box 2350, Smithfield, NC 27577. In addition, applicants should also send Advanced Placement test scores, SAT scores (if not on high school transcript), and placement test results from another community college if college transcripts do not reflect placement.
Official transcripts must come directly from the school or be submitted in an officially sealed envelope (transcripts are not considered official if the sealed envelope has been opened).
You should use the JCC Request for Transcript form to request that all official transcripts, secondary and postsecondary, be mailed to the Admissions Office by the application deadline date.
3. Complete a placement test.
Applicants who need to take a placement test will be notified by letter or email, but only after the JCC application and all transcripts have been received. Some applicants may not be required to take the placement test, although this can only be determined once all transcripts have been received and reviewed.
Click here for more information on JCC testing services.
4. See a counselor.
Applicants will be schedule to meet with a counselor for an admissions interview to discuss their intended program of study, placement test results, and/or transfer credits. The counselor will also assign the student an academic advisor.
Counselor information can be found on the JCC website.
5. See an academic advisor.
Make an appointment with the assigned academic advisor to discuss courses. Advisors are program specific. For information on your advisor, use the "Who Is My Advisor?" section of this site.
6. Register for classes.
Registration dates and deadlines can be found in the Important Dates and Deadlines section of the JCC website. Registration may be done in-person or online through WebAdvisor.
After registration, students may then print their schedule, obtain a student ID and parking pass, and purchase books and supplies.
Don't Forget to Apply for Financial Aid
Students who need financial assistance for college expenses should review the Financial Aid information available on this web site or contact the Financial Aid Office at 919-209-2036.
