Career Development/Employability Skills Training

*Registration fees for the following classes Employability Skills classes will be fee-waived for individuals who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Unemployed
  • Working and earn wages at or below 200% of the federal poverty level guidelines
  • Working and eligible for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (FEIT)
  • Received notice of pending layoff

Basic Workplace Computer Skills – 33 Hours

Learn basic computer skills while developing employability skills. Explores the basics of computer operating systems, keyboarding, how to utilize search engines, as well as an introduction to productivity programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint basics) as it relates to employment documents and an understanding of security and privacy. This course sets the foundation for other computer courses. REGISTRATION required.

Skills for Success - 4 Hours

Employers take an average of 10 seconds to look at a resume. Why is a 30 second elevator speech so important? Learn how to communicate your transferable skills on your resume and in the interview. Come to this energetic workshop and find the one thing you might be missing in your job search. Get encouraged by our motivational instructor who will teach you some great ideas on how to get noticed.

An interview is a stressful experience for most people. This workshop will focus on helping you to successfully navigate a job interview, highlight the most commonly asked interview questions, provide preparation tips and address appropriate interview attire. No registration required!

You will learn how to impress recruiters by creating a clear and concise resume, to communicate to recruiters effectively, to be kind, to learn how to relate your experiences, how to ask questions, and to be confident. Geared towards IT fields, business and other professional fields. Martin Lazarus has 7 years experience in the IT field, he knows what success is, what it takes, and how to get it!

Working Smart Training - 24 Hours

Master the skills that employers know to be crucial for job success!  Employers are looking for people who have technical skills and experience to do the job, but also bring the “soft skills” that lead to success. 

This includes: Communication Skills; Problem-Solving; Time Management; Work Ethics,  and more

This Soft Skills Program is endorsed by the Capital Area Workforce Development Board
Certification will be handed out after all classes are completed.

Direct Care Basics - 60 Hours

Direct Care Basics introduces students to the necessary skills and responsibilities of the Personal and Home Care professional. Participants will gain an understanding of what it takes to be a Direct Care Worker, and how to get and keep a job. Building on these skills, participants will also learn to include in-home management and personal care tasks using limited assistance. Module 10 is taught by an experienced RN instructor.
