  1. An applicant must submit a JCC application and a program specific application. Applications must be received in the Student Services Office by March 1st of each year. The College reserves the right to extend the application period when warranted. The Sonography Programs begin the fall semester of each year.
  2. Official transcripts from high school and all colleges attended must be on file by March 1 to process the application. The applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalency and meet the minimum requirements for ENG 111 and MAT 080.
  3. The applicant must have attained a minimum grade of "C" on two science courses (biology and advanced biology, chemistry, high school physics or the equivalent). Effective fall 2012 applicants applying to the Sonography cannot use a college level physics to meet the admission requirements.
  4. The applicant must have attained a minimum grade of ā€œCā€ on one algebra course (high school or college level) regardless of math placement scores.
  5. Current and unrestricted verification of certification on the NC Nursing Assistant Registry is required by March 1. Applicants with a Bachelor or AAS in Nursing or an Allied Health-related patient care field do not have to have CNA I certification.
  6. The applicant must complete the first three phases of the application process before March 1st.
  7. The applicant must complete a Health Occupations Test by March 1. The test may be taken only one time per academic year and must be taken at JCC. Scores from other schools will not be accepted. The Academic Skills Center offers an admissions test prep program. Applicants may take the admissions test once per academic year and test scores are valid for two years.
  8. The student must possess a current Health Care Provider CPR (adult and child) certification. The CPR certification cannot lapse while enrolled in the Sonography program.
  9. A completed Student Medical Form (physical examination by a physician) is required prior to registration.
  10. If admitted, the student will submit to a criminal background check and drug screening as directed by affiliating clinical agencies. Enrolled students are subject to random drug screens as directed by affiliating clinical agencies. Clinical agencies reserve the right to deny students access based on criminal background. This denial may result in the inability of the student to successfully complete the program. Certifying agencies may deny certification eligibility due to a criminal background.
  11. Additional points will be given on the point ranking sheet for applicants who have completed a medical terminology curriculum course or a high school health occupations course with a ā€œCā€ or better.
