Additional Program Information: Cosmetology

The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide students with hands-on training in a simulated salon environment. Course work includes instructions in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics.

The JCC Cosmetology Salon is open to the public. Advanced students provide services under the careful guidance of instructors.

The diploma and certificate programs are offered in the Cosmetology curriculum and may be completed in four semesters:

• Diploma
  • 1500 hours in the cosmetology program and additional related courses; college orientation course, communication skills and psychology
• Certificate
  • 1500 hours in the cosmetology program; no additional related courses required

Certificate or diploma choices have no bearing on the skills taught in the college. Graduates of the program are skilled in hairstyling, haircutting, sculptured nails technology, skin care, permanent waving and relaxing, and hair color. Upon completion of the program and after attaining a passing score on the State Board Exam, graduates are qualified to work in cosmetology salons and related businesses throughout North Carolina.

Uniform Policy

Cosmetology Students

• Black uniform top (Standard V-neck scrub design and material required)
• Black uniform pants
• Black socks or hose
• Black leather tennis shoes or black nursing shoes (black CrocsTM accepted)
• Black uniform jacket and/or black smock (Aprons accepted - black/white color only)

*Uniforms can be purchased at local uniform stores, online, or anywhere scrub
uniforms are sold.   (Cost:  Varies upon location purchased)

• Nametag – Silver with black lettering  
  JCC college logo and first and last name displayed
• COS 111/112:  “Beginner Cosmetology” must be engraved below
  student name  
• COS 113/114, 115/116, 117/118: “Advanced Cosmetology” must be engraved below student name
