How to REGISTER for a Notary Class:
Preregistration and payment is required. Class size is limited - register early!
> If paying for the class by mailing in a check or paying in person - CE Registration Form (PDF) - print and complete this form, submit with payment.
>If your employer is to be billed, complete this form - Student Sponsorship Form (PDF) - (as well as the CE registration form above) and mail into address listed on top of the CE Registration Form. If more than one person is attending, all attendees may be listed on one Sponsorship Form, but each attendee must complete a CE Registration Form

If your Notary has expired within the last year, you can go to NC Secretary of State's Notary website to obtain your reappointment
online. You DO NOT need to retake the class.

Notary Public – 6 hours
All Notary Public classes begin promptly at 8:00 am. It is recommended that you arrive by 7:50 a.m. for class check-in purposes.
This six-hour class is required for anyone interested in becoming a Notary Public
for the first time.
Note: The CURRENT edition of the Notary Public Manual for North Carolina (2016) IS REQUIRED (NO EXCEPTIONS) for admittance to the class and can be purchased at the JCC Bookstore. It is strongly recommended that you review the manual prior to class to be better prepared for the state examination given at the end of the class.
CLASS PREREQUISITE: Students must provide a current state or federal picture identification for admission to class. The ID must be a valid ID with a picture of the face and either signature or physical descriptors or both.
NCGS 10B-5(b) provided the following requirements to be commissioned as a Notary Public in NC:
1) Be at least 18 years of age;
2) Reside or have a regular place of work or business in this State;
3) Reside legally in the United States;
4) Speak, read and write the English language;
5) Possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
6) Pass the course of instruction described in this Article, unless the person is a licensed member of the NC Sate Bar;
7) Purchase and keep as a reference the most recent manual approved by the Secretary that describes the duties and authority of notaries public;
8) Submit an application containing no significant misstatement or omission of fact.
Due to mandated course hour requirements, participants arriving 20 minutes late will not be permitted into the class. Please take notice of the location of the class for which you register.

Currently all Notary Public classes are held at the Workforce Development Center. The Workforce Development Center is located at 135 Best Wood Drive, Clayton, NC.
