Computer Courses
Computer Applications Programs of Study (CAPS)
The Computer Applications Programs of Study learning objective is to develop an assortment of courses focused on a specific occupational goal in the field of computers. Each Program of Study below lists the courses needed to complete one of these CAPS and may be taken as part of the CAPS program or any course may be taken separately and individually.
Upon completion of all the courses taken from one of the CAPS below, a frame-sized certificate of completion will be awarded from JCC listing the CAPS name, Seal of Accomplishment, and the number of hours and courses taken to complete the program.
CAPS-1. Basic Computer Operator: Basics and Keyboarding, Internet and Email, Computer Intermediate, Office, Adobe Acrobat, and PC Troubleshooting
CAPS-2. IT Professional: Computer Intermediate, PC Troubleshooting, A+, Network+, Security+, and the MCITP. (Basic Computer Required)
CAPS-3. Business Computer Applications 1: AAA or Office, Accounting Fundamentals & QuickBooks, Business Communications with PowerPoint, Visio, and Publisher. (Basic Computer Required)
CAPS-4. Business Computer Applications 2: AAA or Office, Project, Visio, SharePoint, and AutoCAD. (Basic Computer Required)
CAPS-5. Marketing and Advertising: Introduction to Marketing, Internet, Facebook, eBay, PowerPoint, Publisher, Google Apps, Utube, and Video Editing with XP or Vista and Office or AAA. (Basic Computer required)
CAPS-6. Creative Computer Designer: Digital Photography, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Publisher, HTML, Dreamweaver, Programming with C, Expression Web (online), and CSS & XHTML (online) (Basic Computer Required)
CAPS-7. Senior Computer Courses: Basic Computer, Computer Intermediate, Internet and Email, Facebook, Office, Publisher , Digital Photography, and Photoshop
CAPS-8. Instructional Technology: Basic Computer, Computer Intermediate, Office, Blackboard, Moodle, Facebook, and Teaching Methodology
General Information
- NC residents 65 and older are allowed one free occupational extension course per academic semester, but
are required to pay technology and book fees. Technology fees
range from $1 to $5. Books range from approx. $25 to $35.
Below are the three semesters per year:
- Spring Semester: January 1 - May 15
- Summer Semester: May 16 - August 14
- Fall Semester: August 15 - December 31
If the course is noted as “SS†then it is not an occupational course and is considered a self-supporting course and everyone including seniors must pay the fee listed including any tech fees, materials, or book fees if applicable.
- Registration fees include all fees required for the course listed except for the book fee which is listed with the course.

- When paying for your course, please do not send the registration fee and book fee together as these are to be paid separately.
- Students who are age 16-18 and are enrolled in High School and want to take a course with JCC while in school must complete a Joint Approval for Concurrent Enrollment form.
