Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification
Need to Be CNA Certified?
The following health programs at Johnston Community College require that all entering students be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry in order to be admitted into the fall 2010 programs. The deadlines to be listed for each program are:
- Associate Degree Nursing - May 15, 2010
- Cardiovascular Sonography, Medical Sonography - June 15, 2010
What is a CNA?
Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) are important healthcare providers who support patients with daily activities and supply routine care such as assessing temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, administering medications, and preparing surgery rooms. Supervised by a registered nurse or license practical nurse, CNAs are commonly referred to as the “eyes and ears” of the nurse because they spend more time observing and interacting with the patients. This kind of training will give you insight into patient care that will prove invaluable to you as you pursue your nursing or sonography degree. Another common term for the CNA is Nurse Aide I.
Where can I get CNA training?
Johnston Community College offers day and evening nursing assistant training through the Continuing Education Division. Because the CNA program at JCC is in high demand, we recommend that you register for the program early. For questions about the CNA training offered through JCC, please contact the nursing assistant coordinator at 919-209-2009.
There are several other private and public training sites available for becoming a certified nursing assistant. Information pertaining to approved training program locations is available at www.ncnar.org by selecting the "Forms and Publications" link.
Other training sites include, but are not limited to:
- Barton College
- Central Carolina Community College
- Durham Technical Community College
- Fayetteville Technical Community College
- Sampson Community College
- Vance-Granville Community College
- Wake Technical Community College
- Division of Facility Services at Raleigh
A complete list of state-approved nurse aide training programs can be found here.
Where do I apply for testing?
After completion of a training program, students must take the CNA test. There is only one way to apply for a testing date regardless of where you are trained, and this is by visiting www.promissor.com or calling 1-888-282-6904.
