Advanced BioProcessing Certificate Program (Level II)

Students who complete all 6 modules (64 hours) of this certificate program will gain knowledge in advanced Bioprocessing practices, including safety in Biomanufacturing environments, advanced quality systems, applied chemical processes, monitoring process variables in Biomanufacturing, applied sterile processing, and applied cell culture, as derived from the Bioprocessing In The Workplace® curriculum. Advanced Hair Color Day 2: (8 CE Hours)

Upon completion of Day 2, Stylists will have the practical application of color as designed by the ABCH national guidelines.
 -Stylists will be working on mannequins. The techniques are, weave /slice, highlight retouch, gray reduction, tone on tone, reverse highlight, high-low lighting and bleach retouch. The stylist will learn the proper mixing of product, the necessary tools needed to be best hair colorist they can be. The stylists will prepare the hair swatches for different effects and color development. The stylist will know how to maintain clients for a lifetime.

Upon completion of Day 3, Stylists will learn how to interact with clients in real life situations with a variety of hair color challenges.
-Topics that will be covered are the Interactive Assessment, containing real life situations used to evaluate stylists ability to interact with clients. The proper way to answer questions in order to achieve the best results. Stylists will be given hair color challenges and will learn the best methods to correct and /or achieve the proper results for the individual clients. In this class the stylist will learn to adjust the unwanted undertones, corrective techniques for abused hair. All this is achieved by the understanding of hair color categories, porosity, and the past history the client.

This day consists of a written, performance and interactive exam. This ensures that the stylist understands how to utilize the areas that were covered on Day 1, 2 and 3 and put it into practice. This 3 way testing gives the stylist the knowledge of the exam that is offered by the American Board of Certified Haircolorists. The class and testing will also sharpen their skills and give an abundance of confidence to carry back to the salon to increase their hair color business.

BioWork Certificate Program (Level I)

Students who complete this 136-hour BioWork Certificate course will gain the basic skills and general knowledge needed for entry-level process technicians in Bioprocessing, Pharmaceutical, and Chemical Manufacturing, as well as, participate in the Human Resource Development aspect of the course. The course includes nine (9) modules such as Quality, Measurements, Transforming Matter, Growing Living Cells, Safety, Sterile Processes, Process Control, and Nuts and Bolts. There are exams at the end of each module. Additionally, this course will cover all aspects of the job search in the Biotechnology arena, including a job market overview, job search tools and strategies, resume preparation, and interviewing practice. Computer literacy, teamwork, time management, and problem solving are also incorporated in the course. To gain admission to the BioWork course, each student must show proficiency in reading and math skills, as indicated by the Accuplacer assessment test. In addition, interested students must attend one of the regularly scheduled Information Sessions at the Workforce Development Center. The course has limited space.

Green Burial

What is green burial? It is burial that can take place without the use of formaldehyde-based embalming, metal caskets, and concrete burial vaults. It is essentially the way most of humanity has cared for its dead for thousands of years up until the late 19th century. Pathways to Teacher Assistant (60 hours)

This class is designed to fulfill 60 of the 96 hours of continuing education credits as well as the WorkKeys Skills assessments necessary in order to be “highly qualified” and employable by Johnston County’s Title One schools. This class includes skills reviews in the areas of Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Writing. The course also includes basic training on the computer. Real Estate Pre License Course

This 80 hour course provides the required training for becoming a salesperson/broker in North Carolina. This class is approved by the NC Real Estate Commission for licensure. Students must pass a required exam with 80% to successfully complete the course. (Prepaid registration is required)

Pre-requisite for enrollment:
Participants will be required to obtain a Career Readiness Certificate to be eligible to enroll in the course. This requirement can be completed by taking the three ACT WorkKeys Assessment tests for the three subject areas listed below. A fee of $10.00 per assessment is due at the time of testing. This prerequisite will help prepare you for the successful completion of the state Real Estate Licensing examination. If additional study is needed, a program of pre and post training is available from Johnston Community College’s Continuing Education Division. Work Zone Flagger Training 4 Hour Course

Controlling traffic through work areas is one of the most important – and dangerous- operations in construction maintenance.   This course is a comprehensive skill-building session that meets federal industry guidelines: the Manual on Uniform Traffic control Devices guidelines and the ANSI standard ISEA-107-1999. The Office of Highway Safety, the Federal Highway Administration and several state Departments of Transportation have reviewed this program. This course also complies with the North Carolina Department of Transportation requirements. 
 This course is a must for the novice construction work zone flaggers in both one-and-two-person flagging operations. Experienced flaggers can attend this course as a refresher. Pre-registration is required. Contact Jackie Seare at 209-2595 for more information.

WorkKeys®- CRC Test Prep

This class is designed to prepare students to take the WorkKeys® assessments. Each area of concentration will cover basic subject matter needed to upgrade skill level and prepare the student to take the WorkKeys® exam. A fee is required for the test and is free to qualified participants. Tuition and fee may be waived for individuals who meet the following criteria: unemployed, received notice of pending layoff, working and eligible for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (FEIT), or working and earning wages at or below two hundred percent(200%) of the federal poverty guidelines. A minimum of 8 or a maximum of 16 students will be accepted.
