The NC Office of State Fire Marshal will be conducting the newly developed Cell Tower Rescue course on October 29, 30, and 31, 2010. The course will be delivered through Johnston Community College and hosted by the Town of Clayton Fire Department. The course will be used to qualify selected personnel as Instructors and students participating that currently have RT/TR Ropes certification will receive High Tower Rescue credit through NCFRC / OSFM. The course will meet all applicable OSHA and NFPA standards and guidelines. The course will involve advanced hands-on rope-rescue training. Evolutions will include lead climbing, advanced placement of fall protection, rappelling, lowers from elevated areas of the tower with a fixed brake, ground-based tower rescues, and a litter scoop using friction devices. This class will also address the electrical dangers associated with climbing radio and cellular towers.

Sat / Sun, Oct 30th, 31st 8am – 5pm Clayton Fire Department Station 2
Pre-requisites: Working knowledge of rope and rigging systems and appropriate physical and mental aptitude for climbing and working at heights. Participants will be asked to perform moderate to strenuous activities. For NCFRC/OSFM High Tower Rescue certificate, RT/TR Ropes certification credit will be required.
Required PPE/Equipment: NFPA Class III harness, Rescue helmet (climbing style, not firefighter style), Clean gloves (rope rescue style, leather palm, etc) (firefighting or used extrication gloves will not be allowed on rope), eye protection
Minimum number of students required by pre-registration deadline: 10
Maximum number of students allowed: 25
Students participating will be required to pre-register. The deadline for pre-registration is September 27, 2010. In the event there are not enough students for the class by the above deadline, students will be contacted and if there is an alternative delivery agency able to deliver the course, that information will be forwarded to the students.
