Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Initial Training
The Environment Protection Agency’s 2008 regulation of lead-safe practices requires contractors working in homes built before 1978 where children under six or pregnant women reside, to take the proper precautions to work lead-safe. These precautions include minimizing dust, containing the work area, and conducting a thorough clean up to reduce the potential exposure associated with disturbing lead-based paint.
The Federal Government banned lead-based paint for residential use in 1978 but many homes in the U.S. still contain it. Renovation activities that disturb lead-based paint can create lead hazards that have wide-ranging effects on health, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities, to seizures and even death. Those most at risk are children under six years old.
This 8 hour initial training is for contractors whose work on a pre-1978 structure disturbs more than six square feet of interior painted surface or 20 square feet of exterior surface. Pre-registration is required. Contact Jackie Seare at (919) 209-2595 for more information.Course Code: CAR 3112 10U

Introduction to Programmable Logic Control (PLC’s)
Programmable logic controllers typically contain a variable number of input/output (I/O) ports, and are usually Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) based. They are designed for real time use, and often must withstand harsh environments on the shop floor. PLC circuitry monitors the status of multiple sensor inputs, which control output actuators, which may be things like motor starters, solenoids, lights and displays or valves. All of these PLC characteristics will be discussed during class, and lab time will be used to troubleshoot real world situations.
