JCC Compensatory Education Class Races for Literacy July 12, 2004 The Compensatory Education class of Johnston Community College recently posed with Junior Pearce as part of the College’s Race 4 Literacy campaign. Compensatory Education is part of the Continuing Education Division at JCC and is a program that focuses on academic education and life skills for adults with mental retardation and traumatic brain injury. The Race 4 Literacy campaign is part of a statewide effort spearheaded by the North Carolina Community College System to reach every household in North Carolina with the message that helps people realize how important reading is, and focuses on getting nonreaders to take the first steps toward literacy. Pearce, of Pine Level, has been racing for most of his life. Four years ago he began racing full time and during this time has racked up a total of 38 wins. Racing enthusiasts can catch Pearce every Friday night at the Wayne County Speedway located in Goldsboro. |
