Plastics Center, Six Community Colleges to Offer $300,000 in College Scholarships October 7, 2002 Students who want to earn associate degrees in plastics technology have an extra incentive to apply for admission: The Eastern North Carolina Plastics Technology Center (ENCPTC) will award more than 30 scholarships each semester for the next four years. ENCPTC, based in Zebulon, provides skill-based instruction in plastics technology for a consortium of six community colleges. Graduates of the plastics technology program are qualified for employment as technicians for plastics manufacturing companies. Funding for the scholarships will be provided by a $335,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, according to ENCPTC director Michael Jensen. Scholarship recipients must be full-time students in the plastics technology associate degree program at one of the consortium colleges: Edgecombe, Johnston, Nash, Wake Technical, Wayne and Wilson Technical community colleges. Financial need will be a factor, but other selection criteria have not been determined yet, Jensen said. Admissions and financial aid offices at the colleges will be able to provide information about the plastics technology scholarships after details are confirmed, he added. For further information on the Plastics Technology program offered at Johnston Community College, call 934-3051. |
