Johnston Community College Dedicates Arboretum Pergola
to J.H. Langdon
January 24, 2002 The new pergola at the Johnston Community College Arboretum was dedicated in honor of James H. Langdon Jr. Jan. 17 at a ceremony attended by college and county officials, friends and family. Langdon, retired Johnston County educator and current chairman of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners, has been a longtime supporter of agriculture education and the college. The pergola is the second structure to be completed at the arboretum. The land surrounding the pergola and the main building will be used to promote the responsible use of cultivated plants and the conservation of native species through the acquisition, evaluation and aesthetic display of selected plant materials. The arboretum is scheduled to conduct a lecture series and a plant sale later this spring. JCC president, Don Reichard, N.C. Rep. Leo Daughtry and his wife, Helen, Johnston County Schools Supt. Jim Causby, and Arboretum Director Lin Frye, were among those in attendance. Langdon’s wife, Lena, and daughter, Amy, also were on hand for the unveiling of the dedication plaque.
