Joint Logging Safety Training Continues through Eighth Year March 29, 2002 Two days of basic and two days of advanced logging safety training were held March 20-21, at Johnston Community College's Howell Woods Learning Resource Center. The training was provided by the North Carolina Forestry Association in cooperation with Forestry Mutual, a workers compensation insurance provider, and the college. N.C. Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry participated on the second day of training, and made a special presentation to Husqvarna and Gransfors Bruks, two of the primary equipment sponsors and supporters of improved logging safety. The N.C. Forestry Association (NCFA) and N.C. Department of Labor have created a strong partnership to improve logging safety. One element has been the commitment on behalf of their loggers for site inspections. This year marks the eighth year of this successful joint training program. Nearly 300 NC-OSHA officers have been exposed to this training. Officers are exposed to the latest technology in personal protection equipment and also compete in technical skills events that included chain saw cutting and tree felling accuracy.
