Two Johnston Community College Students Awarded Scholarships October 3, 2002
James Williams and Jackson Hoffman have each been awarded $250 scholarships to continue their studies in Johnston Community College's Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology (HEAT) curriculum. The North Carolina Trucking Association Maintenance Council provided the scholarships. Williams decided to enter the HEAT program in January 2001 after Erwin Mills downsized and relocated the company. Once he completes the program, he will have new skills to add to his years of experience as a mechanic. Hoffman spent 28 years in the tool and dye industry prior to entering the HEAT program. After completing his degree, he plans to pursue a career in marine diesel technology. Billy Phillips, JCC Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology Instructor and Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Chapter of the NC Trucking Association, states students experience success at gaining employment once the curriculum is completed. Graduates qualify for entry-level employment opportunities in dealerships, fleet shop, or independent garages. JCC's Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology (HEAT) curriculum is designed to prepare individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to service, troubleshoot, and repair heavy-duty vehicles. For more information on this program, contact Phillips at 209-2084. |
