Smithfield Fire Department Takes JCC Compensatory
Education Class for a Ride
February 4, 2002 When Doug Fisher, Johnston Community College director of Emergency Services, heard that the wish of one of the college’s compensatory education students was to ride on a fire truck, he decided to help make that wish come true. Fisher arranged for the Smithfield Fire Department to visit campus and take the class out for a ride around campus, complete with lights flashing and siren blasting. The experience gave the students the opportunity to learn about the valuable services that local fire departments provide to the community.
