Johnston Community College Collaborating With Other Community Colleges Across State To Offer Court Reporting and Captioning Program August 5, 2002 Beginning fall semester 2002, Johnston Community College will join Lenoir Community College, Catawba Valley Community College, and Bladen Community College to offer a new degree program in court reporting and captioning. Graduates of this program should qualify for employment as an official court reporter, freelance reporter, television and video captioner, stenointerpreter, conference reporter, stenographer, or transciptionist.
Fayetteville resident Betty Lyons, pictured, began her studies at Lenoir Community College in Kinston, but will finish the program at JCC. For Lyons, this new program at JCC will offer a shorter traveling distance to receive the court reporting instruction. A former FBI employee, she is most interested in working as a television and video captioner when she completes her studies.
