Students to Receive Free Community College Tuition July 15, 2002 Ten students have been selected to serve as Johnston Community College Ambassadors for the 2002-2003 Academic Year. The Student Ambassadors are an honorary group of students who have been chosen to represent the college at special events on campus and in the community. Student Ambassadors are nominated by faculty and staff to become ambassadors on the basis of grade point average, leadership potential, and communication skills. A committee made up of a faculty, staff, Continuing Education and Student Services representatives selects the ambassadors. All ambassadors will receive free tuition and fees. On campus, the Ambassadors assist JCC faculty and staff by conducting campus tours, hosting campus activities, recruiting students, speaking to community groups and agencies, and assisting with registration, graduation and orientations. Outreach opportunities for the group include speaking with legislators on behalf of the student body, assisting the Johnston Community College Foundation at special events and speaking to community groups and agencies. This year, the Ambassadors will be responsible for completing a community service project. The students will research, plan and implement a project from its inception to completion. The 10 Ambassadors are, with hometowns and curriculums: Cari Johnson, Four Oaks, Associate in Arts; Michael Hill, Fremont, Advertising and Graphic Design; Jim Daniels, Smithfield, Internet Technologies; Kennisha Williams, Smithfield, Cosmetology; Lorie Thomas, Four Oaks, Medical Assisting; Sharon Whitley, Smithfield, Medical Assisting; Kevin Barnes, Smithfield, Business Administration; Delfina Valadez, Smithfield, Paralegal; Ashley Glosson, Selma, Associate in Science; and Yolanda Saucedo, Selma, Associate in Arts.
