Johnston Community College Students to Be Recognized for Academic Excellence by NCCCS

March 11, 2002

Johnston Community College has named two students, Jamie Edwards and Traci Nunn-Turner, as the college's representatives for the North Carolina Community College System Academic Excellence Awards.

Edwards, a Four Oaks resident, is enrolled in the JCC Radiography program.  He has earned a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) while at JCC.  Nunn-Turner, who is from Pine Level, is studying network administration.  She holds a 3.88 GPA and is the current president of the JCC Student Government Association.

Two students from each community college are selected annually to represent the colleges at the system's awards luncheon.  Students are selected based on Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society criteria, which requires that each recipient be a currently enrolled student who has completed at least 12 semester hours (or quarter hour equivalent) in an associate of arts, associate of science, associate of applied science, or associate of general studies degree program, and have a cumulative grade point average of not less than 3.25.

Edwards and Turner will be formally recognized for their achievements at the 2002 awards luncheon May 14 in Raleigh.
