The Johnston Community College Early Childhood Department has teamed up with the Partnership for Children of Johnston County to present nationally recognized children’s performer Joe Scruggs in concert, Saturday, April 13, at 4 p.m. in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium.

The concert is just one of numerous campus activities scheduled to celebrate the Week of the Young Child April 7 through 13. Prior to the concert, the department and partnership will host a Fun Fair to help focus attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. The Fun Fair will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will feature information display tables. JCC Early Childhood Education students will be on hand to entertain the children before the concert begins.

Joe Scruggs brings to the stage a menagerie of music, puppets and skits for the entire family. Scruggs has won five prestigious Parents’ Choice Awards, as well as a Cable ACE award for his song "Bahama Pajamas." He has been featured on various television shows and videos, including the PBS series "Barney."

"This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn more about the services offered by the Partnership for Children while their children enjoy several great activities," Nancy Thomas, executive director of the Partnership for Children, said. "The partnership is also very pleased to bring such a fine, nationally recognized entertainment group as Joe Scruggs to perform for the families and children of Johnston County. It’s a great way to celebrate the Week of the Young Child."

Tickets for reserved seating for the Joe Scruggs concert are $6 each and can be purchased through the JCC Box Office Monday through Friday, 1:30 to 5:00 p.m., (919) 209-2099. Tickets will also be on sale the day of the show at 3 p.m. based on availability.
