The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide students with hands-on training in a simulated salon environment. Course work includes instructions in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics.
Students attend class from 8 am until 2:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and 8 am until noon on Monday and Friday. The Johnston Community College Cosmetology Department is open to the public; hours are posted on the Contact Information page. Advance students provide these services under the careful guidance of instructors.
The diploma and certificate programs are offered in the Cosmetology curriculum and may be completed in four semesters:
Certificate or diploma choices have no bearing on the skills taught in the college. Graduates of the program are skilled in hairstyling, haircutting, sculpture nails technology, skin care, permanent waving and relaxing, and hair color. Upon completion of the program and after attaining a passing score on the State Board Exam, graduates are qualified to work in cosmetology salons throughout North Carolina.
