Johnston Community College is a national test center for administering computer-based College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams as well as the paper and pencil Dantes Standardized Subject Tests (DSST). JCC students as well as the general public may take CLEP and DSST exams in the Testing Center in room 186 of the Wilson Building. Advance registration is required. JCC students who perform satisfactorily on the exam will receive a grade of X. The X grade carries no quality points, but credit hours will be awarded identical to the number normally assigned to that course at JCC. The appropriate department will determine the amount of credit awarded within a specific program. CLEP and DSST policy is subject to change as necessary. For questions and to find out more information about these exams, you can contact the testing coordinator at JCC by calling 919-209-2088. Johnston Community College grants CLEP credit according to the guidelines below. DSST credit must be approved by the college registrar prior to taking the test.
*The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends that the minimum score for awarding credit be the mean test score of students who earn a grade of C in the applicable course. **Recommended semester hours apply only to the computer-based test for this subject. ***JCC also requires the written essay portion for which there is an additional charge. |
