The SSS program at Johnston Community College is the only program of its kind in Johnston County, and was initially funded in 2001.
Student Support Services (TRiO) Staff
Carrol Warren, Director
Carrol Warren is a graduate of Meredith College and the University of Texas at Austin. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in education. She joined TRiO in 2005 and as Director, Carrol is responsible for planning, developing, and administering the Student Support Services TRiO grant program.
The director also serves as the College's liaison to the U.S. Department of Education's program and grants officers. She has over 10 years of experience in serving adults in a variety of capacities and was a first-generation student herself. Carrol enjoys the accepting, inviting and encouraging atmosphere that TRiO offers students.

Tammy Miller, TRiO Advisor
Tammy Miller is a graduate of North Carolina State University where she received both her bachelor and master of social work degrees. Prior to coming to JCC, she worked as a human services professional providing services to underrepresented populations seeking educational and employment guidance.With over 12 years of counseling and case management experience, her goal as TRiO Advisor is to provide students with the necessary skills, information, and support that will enable them to achieve their career, personal and academic goals.
The Advisor also coordinates campus visits/transfer planning, financial aid planning, and career guidance. Tammy leads PALS (Peer Assistance, Leadership & Support) and TRiO’s Social Committee, both activities she created when she joined TRiO in 2010.

Brenda Peedin, Tutor Coordinator
Brenda Peedin received an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Administrative Office Technology in 1993 from JCC. She worked in the Admission's Office at Johnston Community College from 1993 until November of 2001 when she was hired for the Tutor Coordinator position with Student Support Services.
She is a certified tutor trainer with the National Tutoring Association and is qualified to train all of Student Support Services' NTA-certified tutors. The tutor coordinator is responsible for coordinating all facets of the professional and peer-tutoring program.

TuwandaRichardson, Program Assistant
Tuwanda Richardson received an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Medical Office Administration and Office Systems Technology from JCC in 2007. An alumna of the TRiO program, Tuwanda came to serve Student Support Services as the Program Assistant in 2008.
She is responsible for planning and coordinating workshops and cultural activities and trips related to the TRiO program. She also helps provide assessments and assists with data entry and supply orders. Tuwanda also sometimes serves as a tutor for the program.
