The following classes are designed to fulfill Plan
A requirement of the Johnston County Board of
Education for the job of Teacher Assistant. The
courses focus on the concepts of becoming an
effective Teacher’s Aide studying subjects such
as classroom management, discipline, EC issues
and laws, computers, and more.
The classes also
teach the skills necessary to take the WorkKeys
assessment tests of Reading for Information,
Locating Information, Applied Mathematics,
and Writing, and thus receive a North Carolina
Career Readiness Certificate.
Upon completion
of the 96 hours of coursework and the WorkKeys
assessments, candidates will be considered
“highly qualified” and employable by Johnston
County Schools, and when candidates finish the
remaining 102 hours of coursework, they are
eligible for an increase in pay.
This class is designed to fulfill 60 of the 96 hours of continuing education credits as well as the WorkKeys Skills assessments necessary in order to be “highly qualified” and employable by Johnston County’s Title One schools. This class includes skills reviews in the areas of Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Writing.
The course also includes basic training on the computer. Tuition and fee may be waived for individuals who meet the following criteria: working and eligible for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit, or working and earning wages at or below two hundred percent (200%) of the federal poverty guidelines.

This class focuses on skills needed in the classroom such as classroom management, EC issues and laws, sign language, discipline, and communication.
