Teacher Assistant Certificate Program

Schedule

Johnston Community College, in cooperation with the Johnston County Board of Education, offers a certificate program for teacher assistants seeking professional growth.  This program is designed for currently employed teacher assistants working in Johnston County Public Schools.  A three-plan option is offered to meet various staff development needs.

Plan A
198 contact hours in non-credit continuing education courses in the area of WorkKyes mathematics/reading/writing, technology/computer courses, conversational Spanish, first aid and safety, or early childhood development.
Plan B
18 semester credit hours completed in the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree programs.
Plan C
13 semester credit hours completed in the Early Childhood Certificate program.

Upon completion of any of these options, it is the responsibility of the teacher assistant to notify the Continuing Education Division at Johnston Community College to receive a certificate verifying their completion. This certificate may then be taken to the Personnel Office at the Board of Education for the pay increment to be processed.
