EMT Certification
To register for any of the following classes, use one of the registration forms on the main EMS page.
Medical Responder - January 5, 2009
- This class will be every Monday and Wednesday night from 7-10pm at the Benson Fire Department.
- The required textbook and workbook is Brady's Prehospital Emergency Care, eighth edition, by Mistovich/Karren, ISBN 0-13-174143-8. Available at the JCC Bookstore or online through.
- To register for the class, you need to preregister and bring $65 or a squad letterhead from a chief or training officer stating that you are a member in good standing. Members of squads are fee-exempt for both fire and EMS personnel.
EMT-Basic - January 13, 2009
- This class will be every Tuesday and Thursday night from 7-10pm. There are several required Saturday classes.
- The required textbook and workbook is Brady's Prehospital Emergency Care, eighth edition, by Mistovich/Karren, ISBN 0-13-174143-8. Available at the JCC Bookstore or online through.
- To register for the class, you need to preregister and bring $65 or a squad letterhead from a chief or training officer stating that you are a member in good standing. Members of squads are fee-exempt for both fire and EMS personnel.
EMT-Intermediate - TBA
- This class will meet every Monday and Wednesday night from 7-10pm in Elsee Building.
- The required textbook and workbook for this class are the Mosby's EMT-Intermediate Textbook, 3rd ed., by Shade, ISBN 0-32-3045154. These can be ordered online or you may purchase them at the JCC Bookstore.
- To register for the class, download a copy of the preregistration form (available from the EMS main page) and mail it to: Johnston Community College, EMS Department, 245 College Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
- To register for the class, you need to preregister and bring $65 or a squad letterhead from a chief or training officer stating that you are a member in good standing. Members of squads are fee-exempt for both fire and EMS personnel. You are required to be affiliated with a squad for the purpose
of malpractice insurance.
EMT-Paramedic
Orientation: Thursday, January 8th, 2009 at 08:30- 17:30. Public Safety Services Building Auditorium
Course Information: This year- long EMT Basic to Paramedic Program is offered on a shift friendly schedule.
- One class per week: Monday or Thursday; 8:30- 5:30 pm.
- One clinical shift per week with flexible scheduling.
- 11 weekend classes.
- ACLS, PALS, PEPP, AMLS, NIMS certifications included.
- EMS 3000 Anatomy and Physiology offered on-line as a co-requisite.
- Graduation is December 18, 2009.
Requirements: North Carolina EMT Basic or Intermediate, High School Diploma or GED.
Textbook: Mosby’s Third Edition Revised Paramedic through JCC Bookstore or on-line vendor.
ISBN 0-323-04362-3. A list of other required text books will be provided during orientation.
Registration is $65 for each division of the 3 divisions. Students are fee-exempt with a NC Fire/police/EMS affiliation letter on organization letterhead. Register at orientation.

Bridge to Paramedic:
