Personal Protection

Non self-supporting courses are free to senior citizens aged 65 or older. There are no fee exemptions allowed for self-supporting courses. The registration fee must be paid by all class participants. Registration fees vary depending upon cost of the course and minimum enrollment of students. No refunds are permitted for withdrawal from self-supporting courses unless the course is canceled by the College. Self-supporting courses are noted by (SS) beside the class title. For senior computer classes, all students must pay the technology fee regardless of age.

Written directions and some maps are available for JCC locations.

Registration Information

Concealed Carry Handgun Training (SS*)

This course will explain the aspects of the North Carolina Concealed Carry Handgun law as it applies to the rights of the citizen to carry a concealed handgun and to apply the fundamentals of safety and basic marksmanship. Participants will be required to take a shooting proficiency test and will need to bring a handgun, hearing protection, shooting glasses and 100 rounds of ammunition.

This class will give you the certification you need to obtain a concealed carry permit from your sheriff's office.

Practical Offense (SS*)

Do you have a desire to save your life in the event of a violent altercation? This course is for you! In this course, you will learn and demonstrate proper breathing under stress, awareness, trusting intuition, movement theory, body alignment, escape and evasion, fight or flight, exit strategy, falling safely, basic rolls, ground strikes, basic kicks, basic hand strikes, and basic grappling/body escapes. Learn how to win, not just survive! Instructor Adam Evans has trained military and law enforcement, children, housewives, and grandparents in the art of winning. He holds a Magister ranking in the Art of One, a cumulative philosophy of five different styles of Koryu (ancient martial arts). He is certified in the Art of Executive Protection and enjoys music and philosophy. Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to take some notes. Preregistration is required.
