Art and Music

Non self-supporting courses are free to senior citizens aged 65 or older. There are no fee exemptions allowed for self-supporting courses. The registration fee must be paid by all class participants. Registration fees vary depending upon cost of the course and minimum enrollment of students. No refunds are permitted for withdrawal from self-supporting courses unless the course is canceled by the College. Self-supporting courses are noted by (SS) beside the class title. For senior computer classes, all students must pay the technology fee regardless of age.

Written directions and some maps are available for JCC locations.

Art

Taking Watercolor Lightly (SS*)

If you’ve ever thought that watercolor was not a serious art media and had only limited potential to create exciting, vibrant pieces of art then perhaps this class is for you. Whether you are a beginner or someone who has been dabbling in art for years, these lessons in watercolor will help advance your skills in the media by focusing on how to view and compose a subject, choose color, apply washes, various painting techniques, and the importance of light to a piece of art. Preregistration is required.

Registration Fee - $60. Prepaid registration is required Materials Needed - Watercolors, H, HB Pencils, 16x18 smooth finish piece of plywood, gallon milk jug, lint-free absorbent cloth, choice of watercolor paper.

Painting Fundamentals in Oil or Acrylic (SS*)

Students get an introduction to the basic principals in either oil or acrylic painting. Techniques taught include canvas preparation and various painting styles. Instruction includes design, color, and composition. Students only need to bring a sketchbook and pencil for the first class. A supply list will be given at the first class.

*NOTE: Students with some painting experience are welcome to join us and will work on independent projects. Instructor will demonstrate new techniques designed to enhance creativity and skill.

You can Learn to Paint! (SS*)

This hands-on class is for beginners who would like to learn how to creatively paint with acrylic. Painting can be relaxing and therapeutic. Come join the fun! Supplies needed will be discussed at the first class.

Adult Piano Instruction (SS*)

Learn to play the piano through group instruction in the College’s Continuing Education Piano lab. This class is on the Main Campus of JCC.
